WACO, Texas – Baylorstarting pitcher Trent Blank tossed six shutout innings, while first baseman Max Muncy hit two home runs as the 27th-ranked Bears routed Kansas 9-0, in a Big 12 baseball game played Saturday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.

Kansas falls to 10-12 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play, while the Bears win their sixth-straight game to improve to 17-7 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

Blank, Baylor’s senior right-handed pitcher, got himself into trouble in every inning, but was able to pitch his way out of it. Kansas left 13 men on base, including nine in the first six innings. The Baylor senior went six innings and allowed no runs on four hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. He improved to 6-0 on the season.

After scoring a run in the first on an RBI ground out in the second, Baylor stretched the lead to 4-0 in the third inning. With Jake Miller on second base, Nathan Orf collected a bunt single that KU threw away, allowing Miller to score. One pitch later, Muncy had his first home run, a two-run shot over the right field wall.

The Bears scored single runs in the fourth and fifth and took command of the sixth on Muncy’s second home run of the game – a three-run shot down the right-field line.

Senior catcher James Stanfield collected two hits in five at bats to lead the Kansas offense, while five other Jayhawks recorded singles.

The Jayhawks will look to salvage the final game of the three-game series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m.
