Kansas Women's Golf to Compete at Briar's Creek Invitational

JOHN’S ISLAND, S.C. – Kansas women’s golf will compete in its fifth event of the spring season at the Briar’s Creek Invitational at Briar’s Creek Golf Club in John’s Island, S.C., March 25-26.

Kansas is one of 17 teams that will play on the par-72 course, which will play 6,120 yards for the Briar’s Creek Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston. Following a practice round on Sunday, March 24, the tournament will consist of 36 holes on March 25 and 18 holes on Tuesday, March 26.

In its last outing Kansas defeated Nebraska 317-327 in the Jayhawk-Cornhusker Challenge at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan., Wednesday, March 20. Originally scheduled for 36 holes, weather conditions cause the event to play 18 holes.

Kansas’ lineup will consist of juniors Meghan Potee and Thanuttra “Fhong” Boonraksasat, sophomores Minami Levonowich and Gabby DiMarco and freshman Yupaporn “Mook” Kawinpakorn.

Potee won the Jayhawk-Cornhusker Challenge with a 4-over 76. She will play No. 1 for KU and averages 76.1 per round in 2012-13. Levonowich (78.3) finished tied for second at the Jayhawk-Cornhusker Challenge with a 79 and will play No. 2 followed by Boonraksasat (75.7), Kawinpakorn (75.2) and DiMarco (77.9).

Other participants at the Briar’s Creek Invitational include Augusta State, Campbell, Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, host College of Charleston, East Carolina, Furman, Georgetown, Indiana, Kansas State, Maryland, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Penn State, South Florida and Wisconsin.
