STILLWATER, Okla. –

Kansas shut out the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium to take its first league series sweep of the season. The Jayhawks (23-9-1, 2-0) have now won three straight against Oklahoma State (20-19, 0-2), and eight straight games against Big 12 foes dating back to May 6, 2006.

Kansas jumped out to a first-inning lead when sophomore Elle Pottorf hit a two-run home run to left center. Pottorf leads the team with six home runs on the season. Her homer scored fellow sophomore Stevie Crisosto, who reached on a base hit up the middle. The single extended Crisosto’s hitting streak to 11 consecutive games.

Sophomore Valerie George (7-2) was called upon to protect the two run lead. George threw six and two-thirds shutout innings, allowing three hits. George struck out eight batters and allowed only one Cowgirl to reach third base in her seventh-straight victory in the circle. Senior pitcher Kassie Humphreys earned her Big 12-leading fourth save of the season as she retired Oklahoma State’s Katelyn Bright for the game’s final out.

The Jayhawks did not record a base hit after Humphreys’ second inning base knock, but solid defense led by Pottorf and senior first basemen Nicole Washburn helped preserve the lead. Kansas did not record an error for the first time in a week, the last errorless game for the Jayhawks was against Colorado State on March 18.

KU’s next action will be a non-conference doubleheader at Missouri State Wednesday at 3 p.m. The next Jayhawk home game is scheduled for Saturday, March 31 at 2 p.m. against the nationally-ranked Baylor Bears.
