LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The Kansas women’s soccer team will open the 2010 spring exhibition season with a scrimmage against the KU Men’s Club Team Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. Fans can attend the match free of charge.

The Jayhawks return 23 student-athletes from last year’s team, which finished 12-8-2 overall and placed eighth in the Big 12 Conference. Included in the returning letterwinners is the team’s 2009 leading scorer Emily Cressy, who tallied 12 goals and three assists last season. Also returning are Big 12 All-Freshman team selections Whitney Berry and Shelby Williamson.

Defensively, redshirt freshman Kat Liebetrau returns between the posts. The keeper recorded a 7-3-1 record with a 1.54 goals against average last season. She will be aided by junior defenders Lauren Jackson and Geneva Magness this year.

Following the match against the men’s club team, KU will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to battle the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday, April 3.
