Kansas Softball Unveils Promotion Schedule

March 25, 2013

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Bark in the Park, Jay Days, Social Media Day and a very special Jayhawks for a Cure event highlight the Kansas softball 2013 promotion schedule, released Monday afternoon.

After a 28-game road stand and a snowed-out doubleheader against Missouri State, the Jayhawks will open at Arrocha Ballpark in a three-game series against nationally-ranked Texas, March 28-30.

The home opener will also serve as the first of two `Jay Days’ home dates. During the series opener against Texas (March 28) and the midweek game against Wichita State (April 30), fans can enjoy the `Jay Days’ special of corndogs, popcorn, coffee or cocoa for only $2 each.

On the second day against the Longhorns (March 29), the Junior Jayhawks will be welcomed to the ballpark and KU students will receive a free hot dog while supplies last. Social Media Day is set for the Texas series finale (March 30), where fans that can show proof of following KUAthletics on Twitter or Facebook will be admitted for $3. Following the game, young fans can hunt for eggs on the field.

The Baylor series (April 26-28) will be one for fans to mark their calendars as it marks two of the most popular events on the promotion schedule. Kansas softball and the Lawrence Humane Society will host `Bark in the Park’ on Saturday, April 27. Fans can bring their furry friends to the ballpark for free with a donation to the humane society.

A special `Jayhawks for the Cure’ game will be held on Sunday, April 28. The event will honor head coach Megan Smith’s late husband, Paul Buske, who passed away from kidney cancer in June 2011. Fans are encouraged to wear orange to represent the fight against kidney cancer and donations will be taken at the gate. Proceeds will benefit Lawrence Memorial Hospital and the University of Kansas Cancer Center.

In the final midweek game of the season, Kansas will welcome Wichita State (April 30) on Special Olympics Day. Local Special Olympians will be recognized prior to first pitch.

Kansas will conclude its home schedule against the 2012 NCAA runner-up Oklahoma Sooners (May 3-4). Saturday, May 4, will mark the team’s first `Brunch in the Park’ where fans can enjoy pancakes and orange juice for $1 apiece. That home finale will also serve as Senior Day, honoring the first senior class to play all four years under Smith.
