AUSTIN, Texas–Kansas rowing notched a victory in the Second Varsity Four against Texas on Saturday March 27 in Austin, Texas. The Jayhawks were unable to pull ahead for any more wins on the day, but are planning to build on the improvements the team has already made in the last two weeks.

“Texas beat us, but we’re ahead of where we’ve been in the past,” said head coach Rob Catloth. “The races at Oklahoma two weeks ago put us ahead.”

The first place Kansas boat in the Second Varsity Four finished with a time of 8:00.7, just under five seconds ahead of the Longhorns who finished with a time of 8:05.3.

“We can use this as a stepping stone to improve through the season,” Catloth said.

In the First Varsity Eight Texas was able to race past the Jayhawks to win by over 20 seconds.

“Even though the outcome was disappointing, we showed a lot of improvement,” said senior Lindsey Lawrence. “I have no doubt that we will make many more improvements and be ready to give them some competition for Big 12s in a month.”

Kansas will host Kansas State in the Kansas Cup on Saturday April 3 in Kansas City, Kan., at Wyandotte County Lake. Racing begins at 10 a.m.
