KU to Resume Conference Play Against Nationally-Ranked Baylor and Texas Tech

March 28, 2007

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Coming off a nearly three-week layoff from its last dual, the University of Kansas will resume Big 12 play this weekend when it travels to No. 16 Baylor and No. 69 Texas Tech. KU will face the Bears at 6 p.m. on Friday, and will then meet TTU on Sunday at 10 a.m.

The Jayhawks enter the weekend with a record of 4-9, including a 2-0 league mark which currently has them in sixth place in the conference. In its most recent contests, KU split home duals with Nebraska and Louisville, defeating the Huskers, 5-2, while falling, 5-2, to the Cardinals.

Kansas got wins from its No. 1 doubles tandem of junior Elizaveta Avdeeva and sophomore Edina Horvath in both contests. The duo currently boasts a record of 5-0 in league action, the second best record in the conference in the No. 1 spot.

Baylor, the two-time defending Big 12 champions, enters the match on a role, winning five of its last six matches to improve its record to 11-6, 4-1.

Texas Tech comes in with a mark of 7-6, 0-3. After starting the spring season by winning three of its first four contests, TTU has cooled off a bit, going 4-5 in its last nine outings.

Last year, the Jayhawks fell in a tightly-contested match to the Lady Raiders, 4-3, in Lawrence on March 5. Kansas also dropped both of its duals to BU, including a season-ending defeat in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championships.
