Jayhawks Travel to UMKC Wednesday For Non-Conference Softball Doubleheader

Kansas softball (26-7, 0-4 Big 12) will look to extend an 11-game non-conference win streak when it closes out the month of March at UMKC (15-10) Wednesday, March 30 in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.

After facing two of the top pitchers in the Big 12 last week, Kansas’ is trying to bounce back from four league losses. Sophomore Maggie Hull continues to lead the Jayhawks with a .394 batting average. Her 37 hits are second only to sophomore Alex Jones’ 40 tallies, which ranks tied for eighth in the Big 12, while her team-high 14 stolen bases rank seventh. Senior Brittany Hile provides power to the lineup as she has collected the conference’s sixth-most home runs with 10 and owns a team-best .745 slugging percentage.

In the circle, freshman Kristin Martinez (2.16 ERA) and senior Allie Clark (3.00 ERA) share the starting nod. Martinez, 12-2, has logged the most time from the circle with 90 and two thirds innings of work and has a team-high 49 strikeouts. Clark is 10-4 and has not allowed an earned run over her last six non-conference pitching appearances, a span of 21 innings.

UMKC is paced by Kaelene Curry’s .380 batting average and 30 hits. She is also one of three players with 10 stolen bases. As a team, the Roos own 66 stolen bases. Deanna Friese leads the UMKC bullpen with a 2.22 ERA and 12-6 record. She has pitched nearly 70 percent of the team’s contests and has 122 strikeouts in 116.2 innings while limiting foes to a .188 batting average.
