KU Rowing to Host Tulsa and Drake

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas rowing team will host its first home regatta of the 2006 spring season Saturday, April 1, against Tulsa and Drake. The races begin at 2 p.m. on the Kansas River and include the First Novice Eight, First Novice Four, Second Varsity Four, First Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight and First Varsity Eight races.

The Jayhawks opened their spring season last weekend in Austin against Texas and Cincinnati. Despite an incredible effort, the Jayhawks fell to the Longhorns, 0-6, but overcame the Bearcats, 4-0. In the First Varsity Eight race, Texas came away with a first place time of 7:06.9, followed by the Jayhawks’ 9.7 seconds behind them with a time of 7:16.6. In the Second Varsity Eight race, Kansas came in second with a time of 7:36.9, just behind Texas’ time of 7:20.0. The First Varsity Four saw Kansas beat Cincinnati’s time of 8:28.7 with a mark of 8:26.1, but miss Texas’ 8:06.2.

In the Novice races, Kansas again earned second and third place finishes. In the First Novice Eight race, Kansas notched a time of 7:22.0. Texas took the top spot with 7:05.0. Cincinnati came in third with a time of 7:40.5. Texas took the Second Novice Eight race with a time of 7:15.3, while the Jayhawks finished in 7:43.1. Kansas came in third behind two Texas boats in the Third and Fourth Novice Eight race with a time of 8:08.5.

Directions to the Kansas River at Burcham Park:
From the Kansas Turnpike (I – 70), take the West Lawrence exit #202. Go through the first stop light and turn left at 4th Street. Take 4th St. to the third stop sign and turn left on Indiana St. Follow Indiana St. two blocks then turn right into Burcham Park at 2nd and Indiana.
