Jayhawks in 14th after first two rounds in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – After the completion of the opening two rounds, the University of Kansas women’s golf team finished in 14th place at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz. The `Hawks combined for a total team score of 607 on the day.

Kansas sophomore Emily Powers led the `Hawks, firing first and second rounds of 77 and 73 for a total of 150. The Quincy, Ill., native is currently in a tie for 23rd place.

Finishing close behind Powers were senior Annie Giangrosso and freshman Meghna Bal, who each tied for 31st place after combining on two rounds for a score of 151.

Freshman Grace Thiry, who led the Jayhawks in KU’s last tournament, carded a 157 and currently sits in a tie for 73rd place after two rounds, while sophomore Meghan Gockel is tied for 77th place with a two-round score of 158.

Oklahoma and Indiana set the pace with scores of 589 at 13-over-par, while Erica Moston of San Jose State comfortably sits in a three-stroke lead with a four-under-par score of 140.

The third and final round will resume at the Mountain View Golf Course (6,178 yards, par-72), Sunday, as the Jayhawks look to improve on their individual and team standings in the competitive 17-team field.
