Kansas takes 11th place at Mountain View Collegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore Emily Powers led the University of Kansas women’s golf team to an 11th place finish at the Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz., Sunday to cap off the fourth event of KU’s spring season. The Jayhawks improved three spots from Saturday’s first and second rounds in the team leaderboards, jumping ahead of Kansas State and tournament host, Colorado, with a final team score of 909.

Powers fired a 70, her lowest round of the tournament, to capture a top-10 finish with a tie for seventh place after completing rounds one and two in a tie for 23rd. The Quincy, Ill., native completed the day with a final score of 220.

Indiana claimed both top team and individual titles with a final score of 880. Indiana’s Lauren Harling edged out Erica Moston of San Jose State by one stroke to capture individual medallist honors with a final score of 215.

Freshman Meghna Bal finished eight strokes behind Powers with a three-round score of 228 to tie in 43rd place, while senior Annie Giangrosso tied for 51st place with a score of 230.

Sophomore Meghan Gockel and freshman Grace Thiry each finished with scores of 234 and 237, respectively. The veteran tied for 67th place while Thiry finished in a tie for 76th place.

Next, the Jayhawks will travel to Norman, Okla., to compete in their final tournament of the spring season at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic, April 6-8.
