LAWRENCE, Kan. –

No. 12/16 Baylor used three home runs to defeat Kansas, 8-2, in very windy conditions Saturday at Arrocha Ballpark. The loss halted a four-game win streak for the Jayhawks (25-10-1, 2-1 Big 12) as the Lady Bears extended their streak to seven and improved to 33-9 (3-0 Big 12). KU and Baylor wrap up the Big 12 Conference series Sunday at noon in Lawrence.

Senior Kassie Humphreys and freshman Ally Stanton led KU offensively with two hits apiece. In the circle, Humphreys (12-4) gave up five hits, walked three and struck out two in five innings to take her first loss since March 16. Freshman Sarah Vertleka threw two innings of relief, fanning three batters and giving up three hits in two frames.

BU’s Lisa Ferguson (15-4) allowed seven hits, struck out seven and walked none to take the complete-game win. Kelsey Sage went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Bears while Ashley Monceaux (solo), Chelsi Lake (two-run) and Courtney Oberg (three-run) each hit home runs in the contest.

BU posted its first two runs in the top of the third on a throwing error by freshman second baseman Sara Ramirez. The Lady Bears tacked on two in the next inning off Oberg’s homer and added three more in the top of the fifth on Lake’s three-run blast.

The Jayhawks posted two runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut BU’s lead to five. With one out, Ramirez singled up the middle and Humphreys was hit by a pitch. Stanton’s single to left scored Ramirez from second and sophomore Dougie McCaulley moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice slap. Senior Nicole Washburn singled to left to bring home Humphreys, 7-2.
