Storm Leads Jayhawks to 16th Place Finish at Western Intercollegiate

Andrew Storm turned in the top finish of his Jayhawk career to help the Kansas Men’s Golf team to a 16th place finish at the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Course.

Storm fired a final round 72, featuring a pair of birdies, to close the event tied for 15th place. It is the second career top-20 finish of Storm’s career.

Fellow senior Walt Koelbel continued his steady play with a final day 75 to finish tied for 25th place. Koelbel ranks second on the team in scoring average on the season.

Junior Bryan Hackenberg carded his best round of the event with a final round 78 to place in a tie for 68th place. Freshman Ian Anson shot a 79 to finish in 88th place. Freshman Blake Giroux shot an 84 to finish in 92nd place.

Oregon managed to come from behind and take the team title with a final round score of 282. Diego Velasquez hung onto to his second round lead to win medalist honors with a three-round score of 210.

The Jayhawks will next be in action April 10-11 when they travel to Wallace, N.C. to compete in the River Landing Intercollegiate. Check back to kuathletics.com for complete coverage of the 2008-09 season.
