KU Routs Yale, 7-2 in Spring Soccer Action

OMAHA, Neb. –

Behind five goals from Holly Gault and two from Lacey Novak, the University of Kansas defeated Yale, 7-2, in spring soccer action Saturday at Morrison Soccer Stadium in Omaha, Neb.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Novak opened the scoring for KU with her first of two tallies to give Kansas a 1-0 lead. Gault then responded with four straight goals.

After Novak added KU’s sixth tally of the match, Gault finish off her impressive day with her fifth goal of the match and KU’s seventh overall from her right forward position. Gault also assisted on both of Novak’s goals.

“I felt we played much better than our last game against Minnesota,” head coach Mark Francis said. “Before the game we talked about improving each game and getting better each time and we did that today.”

Rising freshman Julie Hanley started between the posts for KU and played the first 45 minutes. Rising sophomore Colleen Quinn played the second half in goal. KU led 4-1 at halftime

“Defensively we did a good job,” Francis said. “I thought we had a good performance all around.”

KU will return to Lawrence to face the Legends U15 Boys team on Wednesday, April 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the KU Sports Complex. The Jayhawks will then play the Canadian National Team at Hummer Sports Park in Topeka, Kan., at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 13.
