Kansas Soccer Hosts Central Missouri in Saturday's Spring Exhibition Game

April 1, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas soccer will continue the spring 2011 exhibition season Saturday afternoon, when the Jayhawks host Central Missouri in the second spring match of the season.

The Jayhawks are 0-1 in the spring after a 4-3 loss to Nebraska March 5, in the spring-opener. Caroline Kastor was the star of the game scoring twice, while newcomers Shannon Renner and Liana Salazar were impressive in their Jayhawk debuts. Renner, a freshman transfer out of Northern Illinois and a local Overland Park product, scored once while Liana Salazar, a freshman from Bogotá, Colombia, assisted on Renner’s goal as well as one of Kastor’s.

Central Missouri is coming off of a banner year, in which the Jennies went 19-1, won the Mid America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) title and reach the Sweet 16 in the Division II NCAA Tournament. In 2010, the UCM offense scored 57 goals while a staunch defense gave up just 11. Boasting a roster full of local Kansas City-area products, the Jennies return all but two players from their 2010 conference championship squad, including their top four scorers.

Spring soccer action kicks off at 1 p.m., at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
