LAWRENCE, Kan. –

No. 6 Texas A&M completed the series sweep of the University of Kansas with a 7-1 win over the Jayhawks Sunday afternoon at Arrocha Ballpark. The Aggies (34-2, 5-0 Big 12), who have won 18 straight, scored three runs in the third and four in the sixth in the victory.

The Jayhawks were led by lead-off hitter Heather Stanley, who accounted for two of KU’s six hits. The loss marked KU’s sixth straight and moved them to 15-15 overall and 0-4 in the Big 12 Conference.

Despite two tough innings with four Aggie hits, KU’s defense and pitching staff recorded four perfect innings.

KU scored its only run of the game in the fifth. Stanley led off with a base hit, stole second and advanced to third on a slap by Cyndi Duran. Jessica Moppin followed with a single to score Stanley and put the Jayhawks on the board.

Freshman catcher Elle Pottorf, who had caught every inning for the Jayhawks until today’s contest, left the game in the top of the third after a collision at the plate with TAMU’s Jamie Hinshaw. Ashley Goodrich came in from left field to catch for the first time in her KU career.

Hinshaw, who led the Aggies with two hits and four RBI, was tagged out by Pottorf on the play at home.

Freshman lefty Christina Ross (5-5) gave up four hits, struck out three and walked none in the first 2.1 innings. Junior Serena Settlemier allowed five hits, struck out three and walked three in 4.2 innings of relief.

TAMU’s Amanda Scarborough, the Big 12 Pitcher and National Player of the Week, improved to 20-0 on the season.

The Aggies totaled nine hits and left six on base, while the Jayhawks stranded eight.

The Jayhawks take a break from conference play to host UMKC at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Arrocha Ballpark.
