No. 7 Baylor 8, Kansas 6

April 3, 2009 – Lawrence, Kan.

Kansas head coach Ritch Price:

On the energy level of the team:

“I was very happy. When you have a chance to score six runs off one of the premier guys in the country, you have to be happy. The reality was, we had a lead in the ninth inning with an opportunity to win, and we couldn’t close the door. I think it also speaks volumes as to why they’re seventh in the country. They came back and had three great at bats in the ninth inning with the game on the line.”

On giving Baylor an advantage with the at bats:

“I told our club after the game was over to not put this on the back of our bullpen. We had opportunities. Even though we scored six runs and had the lead, if we would have had three better at bats, we could have picked up three more runs and maybe they don’t come from behind. That’s the first time that Shaeffer (Hall) has been hitting really hard. Even the outs were being hit hard tonight. I was really pleased with our bullpen, it just got away from us in the ninth inning.”

On leaving six men on base in scoring position:

“It just goes back to the approach. We had seven walks and I thought we did a nice job laying off the ball when it was out of the zone. The other times we chased the ball that was out of the zone. But you also have to give Baylor credit. They have pretty good arms.”
