For the second-straight game Texas starter Blaire Luna shut down the Kansas offense as No. 17/17 Texas edged the Jayhawks 6-2 in Saturday’s softball action at Arrocha Ballpark.

Kansas dropped to 16-19 on the season and 0-4 in Big 12 play, while Texas improved to 31-8 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

Texas claimed the lead on a Nadia Taylor RBI single in the first inning and would never relinquish the lead. The Longhorns added tallies in five of seven innings.

The Jayhawks rallied for two runs in the sixth inning off Texas reliever Erin Tresselt. The inning was kick started by a Marissa Ingle home run over the left field fence. Ingle now has four homers on the season with two of them coming in conference play.

KU was able to plate another run when junior catcher Brittany Hile ripped a line drive to left field scoring freshman Rosie Hull.

Texas starter Blaire Luna reentered the game with two outs in the 6th inning and struck out Amanda Jobe to strand two runners. Luna did not allow a hit and struck out 12 in six and 1/3 innings.

Kansas starter Allie Clark yielded 6 earned runs over six innings. Sarah Vertelka replaced Clark in the seventh inning and pitched a scoreless frame.

The Jayhawks will return to action when they travel to Columbia, Mo., on April 7 to take on the Missouri Tigers in the Border Showdown.
