FINANCIAL SUPPORT: NON-PROFIT AND STUDENT GROUPS

No athletic department funds shall be donated to any charitable organization or any other fund-raising event. The donation of any goods or items to charities to be sold (e.g., autographed balls, old jerseys) must be approved by the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and the appropriate sport or unit supervisor. Reasonable fees or donations required by charitable organizations to participate in a function (e.g., luncheon, dinner, golf) or to receive recognition in a program may be paid by athletic department funds if participation in the function or the receipt of recognition is business-related and is deemed to have considerable value to the mission of the sports program and/or athletics department. Exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Athletics Director.

Financial Support Outside Charities

Kansas Athletics will make every effort to fulfill donation requests by community members. If interested in an autographed item, a student-athlete appearance, or other (merchandise, tickets to Olympic sports, etc.) a non-profit group must fill out the appropriate forms found at www.kuathletics.collegesports.com/marketing/kan-marketing-donations.html and return them to the Compliance Office.

Kansas Athletics will not be able to offer direct financial support to outside charities. The highest priority for Kansas Athletics fund-raising efforts is to generate resources for Kansas Athletics student-athletes. This includes but is not limited to proceeds from ticket sales (or actual tickets men’s basketball), autographed memorabilia, merchandise, or direct cash payment.

Student groups, such as Student Athlete Advisory Committee or individual teams, may support charities via donating their time and energies for fund drives or other projects.

Only the Director of Athletics may grant exceptions to this policy.

Financial Support University of Kansas Groups

Kansas Athletics is a full member of the University of Kansas community. As a department we strive to support the community in all its endeavors. Kansas Athletics staff and, where appropriate, student-athletes, will make every effort to support programs, concerts, conferences, etc. sponsored by community members with our time and energy.

However, Kansas Athletics will not be able to offer financial support to such events. The highest priority for Kansas Athletics fund-raising efforts is to generate resources to provide scholarships for Kansas Athletics student-athletes. This includes but is not limited to proceeds from ticket sales (or actual tickets to football and men’s basketball), autographed memorabilia, merchandise, or direct cash payment.

Only the Director of Athletics may grant exceptions to this policy.

Guidelines for Soliciting and Selling

Solicitations shall be done in a manner, which does not interfere with the normal University process in areas designated by the University Events Committee. No event or activity will be approved for the private gain of individuals.

1) Student and University Organizations: Registered student/campus organizations may solicit donations on campus with University Events Committee approval. Funds collected on campus must benefit the University community by means of programs, activities, or services provided by the organization using these funds. All financial records related to soliciting on campus must be available for auditing by the University of Kansas Comptrollers Office within one calendar year of the event.

2) Non-student/University Organizations: Non-registered organizations may not solicit or collect funds or donations on campus. Non-registered organizations may provide information regarding donations.

*NOTE: City ordinance and potential sellers regulate selling and soliciting and solicitors should contact the Lawrence City Clerk to ascertain if a city license is needed.
