Junior Casey Larson went 2-for-3 with hit first home run as a Jayhawk, while freshman Wally Marciel pitched five scoreless innings as the University of Kansas defeated Kansas Wesleyan, 11-4 in a non-conference baseball game at Hoglund Ballpark Wednesday.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Jayhawks improve to 17-18 overall, while KWU falls to 10-21.

Larson, made his second start in as many days, blasted a two-run homer in the fifth inning on a 3-2 fastball for his first round tripper of the season.

The junior outfielder was one of four Jayhawks with two hits in the game. Senior Kyle Murphy went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while right fielder Brock Simpson and catcher Dylan Parzyk also collected two hits in the contest.

KU scored two runs in the first on Robby Price’s RBI single and a wild pitch. The Jayhawks sent nine hitters to the plate in the second frame, scoring six times to take control of the game. Junior Brock Simpson had the big hit, a two-run double to ignite the KU rally.

On the mound, Marciel scattered four singles over five innings and struck out four to earn his first victory since March 6. The freshman lefty was economical, throwing just 57 pitches.

Lawrence product Max Ellenbecker allowed just one hit over the final two innings.

The Jayhawks will play host to No. 6 Texas in a three-game series at Hoglund Ballpark, beginning Thursday at 3 p.m.
