Kansas Soccer Ties, Falls in St. Louis
April 4, 2009
ST. LOUIS, Mo. –
The Kansas soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with Marquette after falling to St. Louis University, 1-0, in exhibition action Saturday at Robert R. Hermann Stadium Saturday.
“It was a good trip, especially for the first time playing a game outside this season,” Kansas head coach Mark Francis said. “We played with a different formation today, and it took us a little while to figure things out. Overall, we did a great job of competing against two very good opponents.”
The Jayhawks surrendered a first half goal off a corner kick to the Billikens in the first match of the day and could not gain the equalizer in a 1-0 loss. KU had chances to tie, but hit the crossbar and also hit the side post in the second half.
Junior Monica Dolinsky scored to give the Jayhawks a 1-0 lead in the first half against Marquette. The 5-foot-5 midfielder led the team with nine goals and 27 points last year.
However, Marquette tied the game three minutes later. In the second half, redshirt freshman Kat Liebetrau made several key saves to preserve the tie.
The Jayhawks will host Arkansas in an exhibition game next Saturday at 2 p.m.
