Jayhawks Hit The Field In Pads Monday

April 4, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The Kansas football team took part in its third of 15 spring practice sessions here Monday afternoon, working out in full pads for the first time during the 2011 spring season. Despite battling temperatures in the mid-50s and high winds, the Jayhawks had a spirited practice on Kivisto Field at Memorial Stadium.

“Today was a good, exciting day,” said Kansas head coach Turnery Gill, referring to his team’s first day in pads. “The guys came out and worked hard. It was good to get in pads. I saw some good things all over the field. As a team we are getting better and better each and every day.”

One of the highlights of the day was the battle in the trenches as the offensive line and defensive line battled throughout the two and half hour workout. Despite being pleased with the effort of everyone on the field, Gill thought one group seemed to excel Monday afternoon.

“The offensive line owned it today,” said Gill, who is entering his second season at the helm of the Jayhawk program. The offensive line had a good day. Each day is going to be different, but today the offensive line really stood out.”

Kansas will return to practice on Wednesday, April 6 for its fourth practice of the spring season. KU will play its annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m.
