LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Junior pitcher Serena Settlemier recorded Kansas’ first perfect game since 1994 as the Jayhawks snapped a six-game skid with an 8-0, six-inning win over UMKC Tuesday at Arrocha Ballpark.

Settlemier (8-5) struck out seven and walked none in the no-hitter as the Jayhawks improved to 16-15 overall on the season.

The last time a KU pitcher recorded a perfect game was on Feb. 20, 1994, when Stephani Williams struck out 12 in an 8-0, five-inning win over Tulsa in Grand Prairie, Texas. The Jayhawk offense also recorded 11 hits in the win. KU’s last no-hitter (Beth Robinson and Tiffany Blood) was on March 13, 1994, against UMKC in Lawrence.

Junior Heather Stanley paced the Jayhawk offense with three hits, including a double and two RBI. Freshman Jackie Vasquez went 2-for-3 with a double that notched three RBI and sophomore Nicole Washburn notched two hits including a double that scored two.

The Jayhawks’ most productive inning came in the second when KU scored four runs off three hits and two infield errors. KU ended the game with 11 hits for its ninth double-digit offensive performance of the season.

Junior Ashley Goodrich, who moved to catcher from the outfield for the first time in her career, recorded a game-high 10 putouts in her first complete game behind the plate. Freshman Elle Pottorf, who was injured against Texas A&M on Sunday, is listed as day-to-day.

Tisha Abell (0-9) allowed seven hits in the first 2.1 innings to take the loss. Reliever Veronica Weaver struck out one and allowed four hits in the last 2.2 innings of work. UMKC moved to 4-28 on the season and extended its losing streak to 16.

The Jayhawks will travel to Stillwater, Okla., for a Big 12 series with Oklahoma State Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) at Cowgirl Stadium.
