Destiny Frankenstein led off the fifth with a base hit to left and Stevie Crisosto followed with a homer to left, her second of the season, to give KU the 2-1 lead.
Serena Settlemier (12-4) gave up six hits, struck out five and walked two for the complete-game win, her third straight victory. Nettie Fierros totaled two of the Jayhawks’ five hits in the victory. UA’s Blaire Perry (5-7) allowed five hits, fanned one batter and walked none to take the loss.
In the nightcap, the Jayhawks scored their lone run in the top of the seventh. Frankenstein led off with a single to right center and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Val Chapple. With one out, Kassie Humphreys reached on an error that allowed Frankenstein to score from second and give KU the lead. Frankenstein, who led KU with two hits in game two, scored two of the Jayhawks’ three runs on the day.
Humphreys, the reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, held the Lady `Backs scoreless through seven complete innings, allowing just one hit – an infield single. Humphreys (8-12) also totaled eight strikeouts and walked three in the victory.
Katy Henry (9-10) struck out 10, gave up three hits and walked two in the complete-game effort. Perry notched UA’s only hit of the game.
