KU Takes Arkansas Doubleheader, 2-1 and 1-0

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –

A home run by Stevie Crisosto and three hits from Destiny Frankenstein lifted the Kansas softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Arkansas, 2-1 and 1-0, Wednesday night at the Lady `Backyard. With the victories, the Jayhawks improved to 20-18 overall while UA moved to 17-23.

Dana Huckabee put Arkansas on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo home run to left center. The Lady `Backs managed a hit in each of the next four innings but stranded nine on base in the loss.

Destiny Frankenstein led off the fifth with a base hit to left and Stevie Crisosto followed with a homer to left, her second of the season, to give KU the 2-1 lead.

Serena Settlemier (12-4) gave up six hits, struck out five and walked two for the complete-game win, her third straight victory. Nettie Fierros totaled two of the Jayhawks’ five hits in the victory. UA’s Blaire Perry (5-7) allowed five hits, fanned one batter and walked none to take the loss.

In the nightcap, the Jayhawks scored their lone run in the top of the seventh. Frankenstein led off with a single to right center and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Val Chapple. With one out, Kassie Humphreys reached on an error that allowed Frankenstein to score from second and give KU the lead. Frankenstein, who led KU with two hits in game two, scored two of the Jayhawks’ three runs on the day.

Humphreys, the reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, held the Lady `Backs scoreless through seven complete innings, allowing just one hit – an infield single. Humphreys (8-12) also totaled eight strikeouts and walked three in the victory.

Katy Henry (9-10) struck out 10, gave up three hits and walked two in the complete-game effort. Perry notched UA’s only hit of the game.

KU continues its five-game road stint this weekend at #18 Baylor. The Jayhawks and Bears will meet Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at noon in Getterman Stadium.
