Postgame Quotes

No. 7 Baylor 21, Kansas 9

April 5, 2009 – Lawrence, Kan.

Kansas head coach Ritch Price:
On the weather conditions:

“What a difference in two days. Yesterday the wind was blowing straight in and you couldn’t hit the ball out with a cannon. Today it was blowing out and they hit eight home runs. It was definitely one of the most unique days that I have seen a baseball game played.”

On what he told the team after the game:

“All you can do is flush that. There is no sense in beating your players up or saying something that will embarrass yourself later. The reality is that our pitching has been fabulous all year long.”

On whether the wind or the pitching can be blamed for the home runs:

“It was a combination of both. If you hit a ball in the air then you had a home run today with the way the conditions were. But at the same time we were behind the count with almost every single hitter. If you get down in the count then that, it sets the table for you to get hurt. It seemed to me like that is what happened all day today.”

On playing from behind all day:

“One of things we do is to try and teach our kids how to play the game the right way and how to come from behind. When we were way down we came back to tie the game and then (Baylor) put up four or five runs the next inning. We came back and cut it back to a single-run deficit, but we just couldn’t stop them from scoring. The difference in the game was that we hit one home run and they hit eight.”
