Kansas’ men’s golf team finished the day Monday in 13th place with a score of 583 at the Cowboy Classic. The Jayhawks shot 296 in the first round and a 287 in the second round. The team is 28 strokes behind first place Baylor. Head coach Kit Grove said the team’s slow start is what cost them on Monday.”We got off to a very sluggish start this morning,” Grove said. “Even with that, we were still actually hanging pretty tough and were under par as a team the majority of the afternoon until struggling a little bit on our way into the clubhouse. Right now, we’re looking to regroup and hopefully we can finish in the top ten tomorrow.”Leading the way for Kansas is Nate Barbee. The senior managed to shoot a 142 with a score of 72 and 70 in rounds one and two, respectively. He currently is in a tie for 18th among individuals. Sophomore Alex Gutesha contributed a 145 with a first round score of 76 and a second round score of 69. His score of 69 is his best round of the spring season thus far. He currently stands in a tie for 37th among individuals. Junior Doug Quinones is in a tie for 60th among individuals with a score of 148. He posted a first round score of 73 and a second round score of 75. Senior Jeff Bell also shot a score of 148, shooting a 75 in the first round and a 73 in the second round. His score of 73 matches his best score of the spring season.Sophomore Dan Waite ended the day with a score of 154. He managed to shoot a 77 in both rounds. He currently is in a tie for 90th among individuals.Zahaki Brown of Colorado State leads all individuals with a score of 133. Baylor leads all teams with a score of 555. Colorado State is in second place with a 561 and Arizona is in third place with a 563. The third and final round will take place on Tuesday morning beginning at 7:30. Team Results1.
