LAWRENCE, Kan. – Oklahoma State junior Robbie Rea went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, while Cowboys banged out a season-high 18 hits as 19^th-ranked Oklahoma State downed Kansas, 14-3, at Hoglund Ballpark Saturday afternoon to even their Big 12 series at one.

The Jayhawks drop to 17-12 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while OSU moved to 22-7 overall and 4-3 in the Big 12.

Leading 4-0 after four innings, the Cowboys broke the game open with three runs in the sixth. With one out and runner on first in the sixth inning, junior Frank Duncan induced a double-play ball off the bat of Gage Green, which would have ended the inning. However, the Oklahoma State sophomore beat the throw from second keeping the inning alive.

The Cowboys then smacked four-straight singles to stretch a four-run lead to 7-0 and ending Duncan’s outing. The junior went 5 2/3 innings and allowed a career-high 12 hits and six earned runs with no walks and two strikeouts.

The Jayhawks responded with three runs in the seventh with a two-out triple by junior Tucker Tharp with the bases loaded, cutting the deficit to 7-3. Tharp’s blast off the center field fence snapped an 0-for-16 slump by the third-year outfielder.

However, OSU responded with four runs in the eighth and three in the ninth against the Kansas bullpen to erase any hopes of a Jayhawk comeback.

Sophomore Michael Suiter led the Kansas offense with a 2-for-4 day, while Tharp drove in all three Jayhawk runs.

Kansas will look to bounce back in the rubber game of the series against Oklahoma State at 1 p.m.
