April 7, 2013

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Kansas women’s tennis team fell to 0-5 in Big 12 play on Sunday, dropping its match to No. 35 TCU, 7-0, at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Jayhawks only pulled off one victory in the match—at No. 2 doubles—when junior Paulina Los and sophomore Maria Belen Ludueña defeated TCU’s Federica Denti and Kelsey Sundaram, 8-7 (2).

Ludueña also nearly defeated her second consecutive ranked opponent at No. 2 singles, although she fell in three sets to No. 75 Olivia Smith, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. On Friday, Ludueña defeated No. 120-ranked Victoria Kisialeva of Baylor, 4-6, 3-1, ret., for the Jayhawks’ second individual win over a ranked opponent this season.

The victory moves TCU to 16-2 on the season and 5-0 in Big 12 play, while KU drops to 8-8 on the year and 0-5 in the Big 12.

Kansas will now play its remaining four conference dual matches at home, starting with Texas on Friday (April 12) at 2 p.m. at Jayhawk Tennis Center. Stay tuned to KUAthletics.com for live scoring updates at all of the Jayhawks’ home matches in 2013.
