Kansas Soccer Takes On SLU at CommunityAmerica Ballpark

April 8, 2010

KANSAS CITY, Kan. –

The Kansas City Wizards will host a spring exhibition match between the University of Kansas (KU) and St. Louis University (SLU) women’s soccer teams before this Saturday’s Wizards game against the Colorado Rapids. The university sides will kick off at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 10th, with the Wizards match to follow at 7:30 p.m. CT.

Attendees to the college game must present a ticket to that night’s Wizards match to get in. Tickets for KU fans may be purchased by calling Kristin Bock at (913) 387-3885 or by e-mailing kbock@kcwizards.com. SLU fans may purchase tickets by calling Brian Roth at (913) 387-3839 or by e-mailing broth@kcwizards.com.

“We’re very excited to get out and play in Kansas City,” KU Head Coach Mark Francis said. “St. Louis is a great team, and even though it’s a spring exhibition, you’ll have a lot of girls vying for spots so the competition level should be pretty high.”

The KU women’s soccer team will enter its 16th season in 2010, having won the Big 12 conference title once in 2004, with NCAA post-season appearances in 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2008. They are led by redshirt junior Emily Cressy, who led the team in scoring in 2009 with 12 goals and 3 assists. Besides her on-field performances that have seen her named 2009 NSCAA All-Central Region and 2008 Big 12 Rookie Of The Year, Cressy has also made headlines for being the first deaf student-athlete in KU soccer history.
