Jayhawks Compete at Day Three of Texas Relays

The University of Kansas track and field teams competed against some of the best college athletes in America at day three of the Texas Relays in Austin on Friday. The meet will conclude on Saturday.

The KU throwers continued to be the story for the Jayhawks. Junior Sheldon Battle finished second in the men’s discus with a toss of 188-03, while sophomore Abby Emsick had a season-best throw of 162-10 as she finished eighth in the women’s discus.

Senior Brooklyn Hann regionally qualified in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.79. Hann finished 12th in the prelims with the top nine moving on to the finals on Saturday.

Other notable Jayhawk finishes included junior Joshy Madathil’s seventh place finish in the 1,500 (3:53.68), freshman Crystal Manning’s 10th place finish in the triple jump (39-10.50) and junior Charisse Bacchus’s ninth place finish in the long jump (19-04.25)

Action from Mike A. Myers stadium will resume Saturday at 9 a.m. with the high school girl’s pole vault, and will conclude around 5 p.m. with all sections of the 4×400-meter relay.
