Schwehr, Mims, Baysinger and Chesang Win DMR

AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Kansas track and field teams rounded out the 2005 Texas Relays with some good performances in Austin on Saturday. Highlighting the day for the Jayhawks was the first place finish in the Distance Medley Relay by the men’s team.
Junior Cameron Schwehr, junior Jeremy Mims, freshman Matt Baysinger and junior Benson Chesang controlled the event at Mike A. Myers Stadium with a winning time of 9:40.95. That mark is the fifth best time in KU history.
Indoor national champion and All-American pole-vaulter Amy Linnen competed in her first outdoor meet as a Jayhawk. The senior recorded the second best vault in school history of 13-07.25 to take second place in the event. KU great Andrea Branson holds the school record with a mark of 13-10. Branson set the record at the 2000 Kansas Relays.
Senior Brooklyn Hann placed seventh in the triple jump with a regionally qualifying effort of 41-08.00, while junior teammate Denita Miller improved on her regionally qualifying mark in the javelin with a 160-11 effort. Miller’s throw is good for fifth on the all-time KU list as she finished eighth in the event.
With just two weeks remaining before the Kansas Relays, KU will travel to two separate meets next weekend. KU will participate at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., and the Tom Botts Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
The Jayhawks that did not compete at the Texas Relays, traveled to Emporia Texas to compete in the State Farm-Euler Invitational.
