#18 Baylor Slips By KU, 2-1, For Series Split

WACO, Texas –

After an 11-inning, 2-1 win over #18 Baylor on Saturday, the Lady Bears defeated Kansas by the same score Sunday to split the weekend series. With the loss, the Jayhawks moved to 21-19 overall and 2-5 in Big 12 Conference play while BU improved to 25-15 and 5-3.

Tessa Lynam put the Lady Bears on the board in the bottom of the third with a solo home run just over the left foul pole. After going three-up, three-down through the first three innings, Heather Stanley got KU’s first hit of the game in the fourth.

BU scored another run in the fourth when Brette Reagan walked and scored from first on a single to left center by Chelsi Lake. KU’s Kassie Humphreys came in to relieve Serena Settlemier in the bottom of the fifth, walking the first batter and striking out the next three.

KU fell short of tying the game in the top of the seventh. With one out, Jessica Moppin walked and Settlemier doubled to left center to put two Jayhawks in scoring position. BU’s Lisa Ferguson stepped in to pitch for Ashley Monceaux and Ashley Goodrich pinch ran for Settlemier at second.

Destiny Frankenstein notched a deep sacrifice fly to center that allowed Moppin to score and Goodrich to move to third. With two outs, Stevie Crisosto was hit by a pitch and Nicole Washburn flew out to right to end the inning and game, 2-1.

Settlemier (12-5) struck out four, allowed two hits and walked one in four innings of work to pick up the loss. Humphreys fanned three batters, gave up two hits and walked one in two innings of relief.

Monceaux (4-3) struck out three, allowed two hits and walked one in 6.2 innings for the win while Ferguson faced three batters (two fly outs, hit batter) in the seventh to get the save.

KU wraps up its five-game road stint Wednesday against Border Showdown rival Missouri. First pitch in Columbia, Mo., is set for 5 p.m.
