The <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Kansas women’s golf team finished fourth, and improved three places, after the final round Monday at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at the Jimmie Austin University of Oklahoma Golf Course (par-72/6,013 yards). The Jayhawks shot 295 in the final round for a three-round total of 884. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Baylor kept its first-place spot in the 18-team field after the final round finishing with 860 shots. Kansas finished ahead of Big 12 rivals Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.

“I am very happy with our finish,” head coach Erin O’Neil said. “Our girls had a very solid tournament. They played very consistently, which is always a good sign.”

Senior Amanda Costner shot 72 in the final round to tie for 10th place at one-over par with a final score of 217 (75-70-72=217).

Freshman Camilla Svensson tied for 29th place after carding a 77 in the final round for a three-round total of 224 (73-74-77=224). Freshman Emily Powers (73-77-74=224) also tied for 29th place with a 74 on the final day of competition.

Freshman Meghan Gockel also shot a 72 in the final round for a three-round total of 225 (74-79-72=225) and a tie for 34th place. Junior Annie Giangrosso carded an 82 on the final day for a total of 231 shots after three rounds. Sophomore Jaci Hiatt, who is competing unattached, finished the two-day competition with 238 shots.

Arkansas’ Stacy Lewis held the top spot individually finishing with 208 shots (67-67-74) after three rounds.

The Jayhawks next compete when they travel to Waco, Texas, for the Big 12 Championship, April 16-18, hosted by Baylor University.
