Jayhawks Wrap Up Regular Season at River Landing Intercollegiate

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The Kansas men’s golf team will compete in its final tune-up event for the Big 12 Championship when they travel to Wallace, N.C. to compete in the River Landing Intercollegiate April 11-13. The 54-hole tournament will be conducted at the River Course (par-72, 6,942 yards) at River Landing.

“We are looking forward to playing in the event,” said head coach Kit Grove. “It is a solid field and the weather should be good, which should make for a fun tournament.”

Freshmen Brad Hopfinger and Nate Barbee will attempt to continue their strong spring seasons at the event. Hopfinger leads the team in spring scoring average with a 73.08 average and has tallied two top-20 finishes. Barbee is coming off a fifth place finish at the Ron Moore Invitational and ranks second on the team in scoring average at 73.17.

Junior Walt Koelbel will continue his streak of participating in all 10 events this year. Koelbel ranks third on the team in overall scoring average with an average of 75.44. Junior Zach Pederson and sophomore Patrick Roth will round out the line-up for the Jayhawks.

The 15-team field consists of eight teams that are currently ranked in Golfweek’s top-100 teams. The River City Course ranks as the 24th best course in the state of North Carolina according to the North Carolina Course Panel.
