Canadian Duo Slated for Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan.A pair of Canadian track & field athletes will be appearing at next week’s Kansas Relays, as KU hall of famer Scott Russell will compete in the javelin and Perdita Felicien will run the invitational 100-meter hurdles.

Russell was a 2008 Olympian for Canada and placed 10th in the men’s javelin. The Windsor, Ontario, native is the three-time defending Kansas Relays champion in the javelin and set the Relays record last year with a throw of 267-06 ft. Russell has won the javelin five of the last six years at the Relays and six times overall. As a Jayhawk from 1998-2002, Russell was a two-time National Champion, six-time All-American and nine-time conference champion.

Felicien was a gold medalist in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2003 World Championships and a silver medalist at the 2007 World Championships in the same event. She was also a silver medalist in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2007 pan-American Games. At the 2004 World Indoor Championships, Felicien took home the gold medal in the 60-meter hurdles.

Russell and Felicien extend the list of announced professional athletes at this year’s Relays to five, joining 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Bershawn Jackson (400-meter hurdles), American record holder Alan Webb (mile) and 2008 Olympic Trials 100 meters champion Muna Lee.

The men’s javelin at the 2009 Kansas Relays will take place Friday, April 17 at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. The women’s invitational 100-meter hurdles will be run at 1:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 18.
