Kansas Soccer Goes 1-1 in Big 12/Big 10 Spring Challenge

April 9, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer rebounded from an early loss to Minnesota with a 1-0 win over Iowa in the afternoon contest in Saturday’s Big 12/Big 10 Spring Challenge held at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.

Kelsey Clifton broke through with a goal in KU’s second match to lift the Jayhawks over the Hawkeyes for the 1-0 victory. Clifton took a short pass from midfielder Liana Salazar and cut around her defender before blasting it to the right side of the net, past a diving Iowa goalkeeper. The goal was Clifton’s first of the 2011 spring exhibition season.

The Kansas defense played solid throughout, keeping Iowa scoreless despite a strong push early in the second half.

The Jayhawks dropped a 1-0 decision in the first match against the Golden Gophers and now stand at 2-2 for the spring season. KU will be back in action next weekend when the current squad takes on the familiar faces of former players in the alumni match. The match is slated for 1 p.m., Saturday, April 16, at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex.
