April 9, 2013

IRVING, Texas – Kansas women’s golfers Gabby DiMarco, Meghan Potee and Audrey Yowell have been named to the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Yowell, a senior, and Potee, a junior, are appearing on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the second year in a row, while DiMarco, a sophomore, is making her first appearance on the squad in her first year of being eligible for the honor.

“I’m proud of all three of these players,” KU head coach Erin O’Neil said. “They work very hard in the classroom to make good grades and it’s nice to see them get recognized for the work they put into their studies. They represent us well in the classroom and on the course.”

A total of 33 women’s golf student-athletes were named Academic All-Big 12 with 28 first-team selections and five second-team honorees. This marks this sixth-consecutive year KU has had three or more Women’s Golf Academic All-Big 12 First Team selections.

Academic All-Big 12 First Team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better grade point average (GPA), while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher (either cumulative or the two previous semesters) and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
