Powers Selected to Play in FUTURES Tour Event

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas junior golfer Emily Powers has received a sponsor’s exemption to compete in the Mercedes-Benz Championship of Kansas City, May 15-17 at Leawood South Country Club in Leawood, Kan. It is the third year for this Duramed FUTURES Tour event, the developmental tour of the LPGA.

Powers, a native of Quincy, Ill., will take part in the event’s media day on Monday, April 13. She will have the opportunity to play with sponsors of the event at 10 a.m., followed by a news conference at 2:30 p.m.

“This is a great opportunity for Emily and I am very excited for her,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “Her ultimate goal is to play professionally and this experience will definitely help her down the road.”

Founded in 1981, the Duramed FUTURES Tour’s role is to develop and prepare women for the LPGA. The top ten money winners on the Duramed FUTURES Tour at the end of the season earn their LPGA Tour cards.

The 2009 Mercedes-Benz Championship of Kansas City will benefit the National Kidney Foundation Serving Kansas & Western Missouri. More information on the event can be found at KCMBChampionship.com.
