Jayhawk Tennis Dominates Tulane, 6-1

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For just the fourth time this season, the Jayhawks swept all three doubles matches on their way to a 6-1 victory over Tulane at First Serve Tennis Center Friday afternoon. The non-conference win evened Kansas’ overall record at 10-10 (4-5 in Big 12) and dropped Tulane to 10-11 on the season. Edina Horvath and Kate Morozova started KU off on the right foot, winning their eighth match as a doubles pairing at the No. 1 position, 8-1. KU, whose last sweep was against UMKC on March 1, is now 6-0 when victorious in doubles action. Morozova and Maria Martinez earned the first two singles points for KU before Julie Svistun clinched the fourth team point with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Tulane’s Caroline Gerber at the No. 3 spot. Kuni Dorn fought her way back after spotting her opponent a 3-0 lead to win her first set, 6-3, before taking the No. 4 match from Marcela Fonseca. Horvath followed with a 10-4 loss in a tiebreaker in the No. 1 match, while Erin Wilbert defeated her opponent, 6-2, 7-5, to wrap up singles play. After taking the first set, Wilbert came back from a 5-3 deficit in the second to win her team-high 14th singles match of the spring. Kansas hosts the last two matches of the regular season when No. 31 Texas and No. 33 Texas A&M come to Lawrence, Kan. The Jayhawks face the Longhorns on April 18 and the Aggies on April 19.
