AUSTIN, Texas –

Senior Cameron Selik pitched an eight-inning complete game, holding Texas to three runs on four hits, but it was not enough. Tant Shepherd’s sixth inning home run with two outs broke a one-all tie and lifted No. 6 Texas to a 3-1 victory over Kansas Saturday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Kansas drops to 19-12-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play, while Texas wins its seventh-straight conference game to improve to 25-7 overall and 9-2 in the Big 12.

As they did Friday night, the Jayhawks jumped out to an early lead only to see Texas rally late in the game. Robby Price drove in the only Kansas run with an infield single in the third inning, giving KU a 1-0 lead.

Texas tied the game in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Connor Rowe and took the lead on Shepherd’s solo shot to left field with two outs in the sixth. It was just the third hit allowed by Selik, who pitched KU’s first complete game of the season.

The senior righty went eight innings, allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Selik needed exactly 100 pitches to get through eight innings, retiring 12 of the 24 men he retired via fly ball outs.

However, his counterpart, Texas’ Cole Green was just a little better. Green improved to 7-0 on the season, going seven innings and allowing one run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts in the game.

KU threatened in the fifth, the seventh and eighth innings, however the Jayhawks hit into groundball double plays in each inning.

The Jayhawks will look to salvage the final game of the three-game set Sunday at 1 p.m. at Disch-Falk Field.
