April 10, 2010
LAWRENCE, Kan. –
The Kansas men’s golf team will wrap up the regular season portion of their schedule as they travel to Columbia, Mo. April 12-13 to compete in the Columbia Orthopaedic Group Missouri Intercollegiate at The Club at Old Hawthorne (par 72, 6,204 yards).
The Jayhawks enter the event coming off back-to-back top-five team finishes at the Desert Shootout and Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic.
“We are looking forward to playing at Missouri’s event,” said head coach Kit Grove. “We haven’t played in it in a long time and are looking forward to competing this week.”
Grove has elected to rest junior Nate Barbee in preparation for the Big 12 Championship and will utilize the lineup of senior Bryan Hackenberg, sophomore Blake Giroux, and freshmen Chris Gilbert, Alex Gutesha and Dan Waite for the first time this season.
The trio of Hackenberg, Gutesha and Gilbert have competed in all 10 events this season for KU. Gutesha leads the trio in scoring average at 75.52 during his freshman campaign.
Waite and Giroux are both coming off top-20 finishes at the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic as both tied for 15th. The finish marked Waite’s top-finish in his young Jayhawk career.
Five Big 12 schools (Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa State and Nebraska) will compete in the event. Kansas State is the defending champion of the event.
The tournament will consist of 36 holes on April 12, followed by the final round on April 13. Check back to kuathletics.com for complete coverage of the 2010 Columbia Orthopaedic Group Missouri Intercollegiate.
