Kansas softball continued to battle with offensive woes as the team was defeated by No. 23/RV Baylor 8-0 Saturday afternoon to open a two-game series at Getterman Stadium.

The Jayhawks are still in search of their first conference win as they dropped to 0-7 in the Big 12 and 16-22 overall. Baylor stopped a three-game skid with the win as it improved to 22-13 on the season, including 3-3 in league play.

Through five and a half innings it remained a close contest as Baylor led 1-0 and held a 5-2 advantage in hits.

In the bottom of the sixth inning however, the Bears broke the game open racking up seven runs on nine hits to put BU up 8-0 and end the game after six frames.

Junior Brittany Hile recorded KU’s first hit of the game in the fourth inning and moved into scoring position at second base following an Amanda Jobe walk, but Kansas was unable to come through with a timely hit to score the run.

Freshman Maggie Hull also had a hit for the Jayhawks in the sixth but was not able to advance. She has at least one hit in five of the last six games.

Marissa Ingle was the only other Jayhawk to reach base earning a base on balls in the second inning.

Baylor stranded six runners in the first three innings before plating its first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after a single-single-double sequence.

The Kansas-Baylor series concludes on Sunday, April 11. Game time is slated for noon.
