KU Women's Hoops Secures Final Top-25 Ranking

April 10, 2013

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Following its second-straight NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance, the Kansas women’s basketball team posted back-to-back top-25 finishes in the USA Today Coaches Poll Wednesday, when the Jayhawks earned a No. 25 national ranking.

KU, one of four Big 12 Conference members ranked in the final poll, finished the season with a 20-14 overall record and received its second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.

“I think (the top-25 ranking) is a reflection on the success we have had and the quality of players in the program,” head coach Bonnie Henrickson said. “It is where we strive to be; it is where our program should be and it’s exciting to be able to do it back-to-back.”

As the No. 12 seed in the Norfolk Region, the Jayhawks upset No. 5 seed Colorado and No. 4 seed South Carolina in the first and second rounds in Boulder, Colo. KU was eventually defeated by No. 1 seed Notre Dame in the regional semifinal after advancing to the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in program history.

The Jayhawks finished the 2011-12 season also ranked No. 25, after advancing to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
