AUSTIN, Texas –

Texas veterans Kevin Lusson and Kevin Keyes both homered Sunday as the sixth-ranked Longhorns swept the three-game Big 12 series with a 10-4 triumph in front of 6,415 fans at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Jayhawks get swept in a three-game series for the first time since last March at Texas A&M, and drop to 19-13-1 overall and 3-5-1 in Big 12 play.

Texas used a six-run third inning, which was capped by Lusson’s grand slam with two outs, to take control of the game. After a fly out by Brandon Loy put a runner on third with two outs in a one-all tie, four-straight Longhorns reached base with two hits and two walks. Lusson then drilled his sixth home run of the season down the right field line to give UT a 7-1 lead.

Trailing 8-1, however, Kansas fought back with single runs in the fifth and the sixth on an RBI single by Casey Lytle and a solo homer by Tony Thompson. In the seventh, the Jayhawks cut the deficit to 8-4 on a bases loaded walk to Thompson, which brought the tying run to the plate with two outs.

However, Texas relief pitcher Andrew McKirahan induced an inning-ended ground out off the bat of Jimmy Waters to keep the deficit at four. It was the last time KU would threaten.

Sophomore James Stanfield and junior Brandon Macias each had two hits to lead the Kansas attack, while senior Robby Price extended his career-best hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the fifth. Price’s hitting streak is tied for the ninth-longest in KU history.

The Jayhawks will look to bounce back with a non-conference game Tuesday at Missouri State at 6:30 p.m. The game can be heard on radio station KLWN-AM (1320).
