Kansas Softball To Host Military Day At Arrocha Ballpark

April 11, 2011

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

On Saturday, April 16, the University of Kansas softball team will show its support for the men and women serving our country as it hosts ‘Military Day’ for its scheduled 2 p.m. game versus Baylor at Arrocha Ballpark.

Senior pitcher Allie Clark has spearheaded the efforts and is looking to collect personal items such as toothbrushes, razors and mouthwash as well as canned and other non-perishable foods. Fans are also encouraged to write letters of support to those serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations around the world.

Clark came up with the idea after sponsoring a soldier for a school project. Clark quickly decided she wanted to do more and, along with her teammates, adopted an entire military unit through www.HeroBox.org.

“I have been emailing one of the unit’s sergeants and he sent me a list of some of the items his unit would like,” said Clark. “I told him about how the team is holding military day and everything we are doing for them and he was really excited. It’s been fun building that relationship. It is satisfying to know we are helping to make some of our troops’ time away from friends and family better.”

To commemorate military day, the softball team will be wearing camouflage warm-ups before they take the field against Baylor.
