Kansas to Host UMKC, Missouri State in Spring Tourney

April 11, 2013

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Although informal, fans can get their Kansas volleyball fix when the Jayhawks host UMKC and Missouri State in the Horejsi Family Athletics Center, Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Reigning Big 12 Coach of the Year, Ray Bechard, and his early cast of 2013 Jayhawks will train with both teams in a full morning of practice sessions before hitting the court for unofficial matches in the afternoon. Play can be stopped at any time for coaches to talk with their players and emphasize coaching points and the traditional five-set format will not be used.

However casual, Saturday still gives fans a chance to see their volleyball team in action before the regular season begins in August. Jayhawk faithful made their way to the HFAC last weekend to see the Jayhawks face off against Central Missouri State and the Heart of America Havoc, a professional, region-based indoor women’s league sanctioned by USA Volleyball.

“We had a great crowd last Saturday and would love to have them back,” Bechard said. “It will be an informal setting, but if they’d like to come out and see a little spring volleyball, we’d be happy to have them.”

Competition is set to start around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and fans can attend free of charge. The Jayhawks will wrap up their spring tournament season on April 20 at Arkansas.
