Junior Patrick McGowan Named to Big 12 Spring Sports Good Works Team

April 12, 2007

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas track and field junior Patrick McGowan was named to the inaugural Big 12 Spring Sports Good Works Team based upon his significant contributions to the community, good academic standing and participation in a Big 12-sponsored sport. McGowan, a Springdale, Ark., native, runs cross country in the fall and competes in both indoor and outdoor track for the Jayhawks in the spring.

During the 2006 cross country season, McGowan displayed significant improvement. He ran a season-best 25:08.6 at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind., and recorded two top-10 finishes during the season: at the Bob Timmons Invitational (ninth, 26:39.3) and Kansas State Wildcat Invitational (second, 15:30.3).

During the 2006-07 indoor track and field season, McGowan competed in the men’s 3000 and 5000-meter runs, recording a season best time of 8:32.18 at the Big 12 Championships in Ames, Iowa. McGowan will be competing extensively in the 3000-meter steeplechase during the outdoor season, which he will run Friday at the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla., and at the 80th Anniversary of the Kansas Relays on April 20.
