IRVING, Texas –

Kansas rowing placed 20 student-athletes on the Big 12 Conference’s inaugural Academic At-Large teams, which the league office announced Tuesday.

Kansas rowers Allison Able, Megan Boxberger, Katie Bremer, Karlie Brown, Cassy Cobble, Elise Langtry, Melanie Luthi, Rachelle Pauly, Lauren Pollmiller, Kellie Roy, Jessica Sadler, Nicole Schneider, Cassie Sparks and Paige Stephens were selected to the first team, while Ashleigh Allam, Molly Boehner, Lindsey Bricklemyer, Amber Malone, Meaghan Oven, Caitlin Roach and Kathryn Schoonover garnered second team recognition.

Schneider, a senior civil engineering major from Lenexa, Kan., was one of six athletes nominated to the team with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

The 161-member squad recognized the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at Big 12 schools that participate in sports outside of the conference’s competition, including bowling, competitive cheer, men’s gymnastics, equestrian, rifle, rowing and men’s and women’s skiing.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, the academic at-large squad consisted of 128 first members along with 33 on the second team. First team selections needed an overall GPA of 3.20 or better to earn nomination to the team, while second team members needed a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

The Jayhawks will take on Sunflower Showdown rival Kansas State on Saturday, April 23, for the Kansas Cup in Kansas City, Kan. KU will be looking to defend its title after defeating the Wildcats, 12-8, in last year’s competition.
