No. 29 Texas Defeats Jayhawks, 6-1

April 12, 2013

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas dropped to 0-6 in Big 12 play on Friday, falling to No. 29 Texas, 6-1, at Jayhawk Tennis Center.

The Jayhawks nearly earned the doubles point to start the match, but Texas’ No. 2 doubles duo of Aeriel Ellis and Elizabeth Begley charged back from a 7-4 deficit to defeat KU’s Maria Jose Cardona and Dylan Windom, 9-8 (4), clinching the first point.

Sophomore Maria Belen Ludueña and junior Paulina Los fell to UT’s Breaunna Addison and Noel Scott, 8-3, at the No. 1 position, while freshman Anastasija Trubica and senior Victoria Khanevskaya sealed the Jayhawks’ only doubles victory over Annat Rabinovich and Lana Groenvynck, 8-3, at No. 3.

The Longhorns (12-9, 5-1) won five of six singles matches in straight-sets, with Trubica earning Kansas’ lone singles victory at the No. 5 position over Groenvynck. After losing the first set of that match, 6-0, Trubica fought back to eventually win, 0-6, 6-2, 7-6 (9).
