LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Sophomore Buck Afenir went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Casey Larson and Kyle Murphy drove in runs, but it was not enough for KU. Baylor’s Ben Booker drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the sixth inning as the Bears downed Kansas, 6-2 in a Big 12 game played Saturday at Hoglund Ballpark.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Bears improve to 21-16 and 5-8 in conference play, while the Jayhawks fall to 18-21 and 4-9 in the Big 12.

After the Bears broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fifth, KU came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth.

Afenir led off the inning with a double, while Preston Land followed with a single and went to second on an error. Larson and Murphy delivered back-to-back sacrifice flies to tie the game at two.

However, Baylor took the lead on Booker’s RBI single in the sixth and then added three more unearned runs in the top of the ninth.

Kansas could not answer. The Jayhawks collected five hits in the game, but just one for extra bases. Robby Price, John Allman and Land had base hits for KU.

Sophomore Nick Czyz suffered a tough loss, pitching five innings and scattering eight hits and allowing three runs. The lefty walked two and struck out four.

Junior Andres Esquibel tossed a pair of scoreless innings of relief.

The teams will wrap up the three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m.
